Dior - Fall 2010 - "It's the most inspiring teacher"

Dior - Fall 2010

I love the  ' Fall 2010 ' collection by Dior. Most of you have probably already seen parts of it splattered over the internet, but for those of you who haven`t, here is a selection of the absolutely amazing dresses inspired by 'Flowers', designed by John Galliano for Dior . Galliano said that nature was "the most inspiring teacher".

I love the head wear too, it was designed by Stephen Jones and was also meant to resemble flowers to compliment Dior`s beautiful dresses. It works so well I think, I just love everything about this collection, the colours, the shape and the styling. Dior is my favourite label by far.

I might make a dress like this one day.

Dior - Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012

Dior - Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012

I've been looking at Dior once again but this time I'm focussing on the tailoring techniques, specifically within the 'Bar Jacket' and suit. As you know, I have a huge love for Dior, and when I visited the official website yesterday my devotion to Dior was completely certified.
I watched a selection of fashion shows featured on the site under the 'House of Dior' section, and without a doubt the Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 is my favourite. The collection showcases everything Dior is known for, the traditional silhouette of the Bar jacket, floaty pastel shaded fabrics draping together, precise tailoring and creative cutting and an exquisitely beautiful theatrical, feminine foundation. I honestly adore Dior.

I want . .

Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie.

Please.

Love Retro

I think my favourites are 8 and 9. They show a playful femininity but true individuality either way I love them all. What happened to that kind of delicate beauty?

Getting passionate about Illustration . .

Now that I have started to settle into Birmingham, I've really started to feel comfortable drawing in my own way and finding my own style within my illustrations. I've always enjoyed sitting down and letting my mind run wild in vivid colours and exaggerated proportions and just seeing what ends up on the paper and recently i've developed a deep passion for delicate illustrations. Here are some of my faves.

Collages from Randy Grskovic

Currently at uni i'm doing a project where we take an abstract approach to design and pattern cutting. When I was having a look around for research and ideas I came across a few pieces of work by this unique artist called Randy Grskovic. I only found four images on the tumblr link I was on, but I think they are great and I can't stop looking at them. Great texture, great colours and great inspo.

New Year, New Start (Apparently).

Seeing as it's the New Year tomorrow, I am completely determined to have a fresh start and follow my dreams and work towards my aspirations. This morning I wrote my 'New Years Resolutions' which consisted of 26 new things I really would love to achieve in 2013.

Today I am feeling possative and inspired about the life I have built for myself, the person I have become and the path I am taking towards a career in fashion. I feel like it's the right choice for me, regardless of all the troubles I have been through and I can get there if I keep doing the things i'm doing and work even harder. I don't need to be a student at London College of Fashion to be successful or recoginsed. I can get there myself with faith and happiness in my heart.

My inspirations for 2013.

FuckYeah-Hair!

In case you didn't know, I used to have pink hair. I loved it so much but it was quite difficult to keep on top of and my hair wasn't in that great condition, so I had a break from it for abit. But since being on my FDa course, I've really wanted colourful hair again becuase it's so much fun and i'm constantly reminded that when I see the people in my class change their hair all the time. WELL JEL!

So I thought, what better time to dye my hair as i'm visiting Paris next month, i'm having fun at uni and i'll be having 'Top Up' interviews soon. My friend Lina and I have decided to dip die our hair this weekend and i'm seriously looking forwards to it, plus it's going to be a girlie day with my mum! I'm going barbie pink, lilac and violet, and Lina is going blonde. So excited!

To get an idea of what I mean by crazzzy colours, check out these awesome dye-jobs courtesy of http://fuckyeah-hair.tumblr.com. I picked out my faves cos there were millions! Havveee fun.

Dior Couture - Patrick Demarchelier

As you know, I got the book 'Dior Couture' by Patrick Demarchelier for Christmas and it is sooo amazing. I still havn't got/been near a scanner yet so I can't exactly show you how brilliant this book is, but luckily I have managed to find a few images of some of the pictures featured in the book, just so you can see my point.

It honestly get 10 times better if you saw the whole book, it's just fabulous! I still can't believe that I have this book in my possession!

Insane Fingernails

I imagine it's quite difficult for most of these women to carry out daily activities.

But still, if I were rich enough to not work, I'd get something like this done, maybe food related ones, like little burgers and hotdogs. I'm such a fatty.

Christmas 2011

Well I didn't really want much at Christmas because there wasn't really anything I needed. I don't see the point in having something that isn't useful and I'd much rather have something I can use at university in my fashion studies instead of a pretty necklace I wouldn't really wear.

But I did ask for 1 of 2 books from my partner. Because I am so obsessed with Dior, I wanted the new 'Dior Couture' book by Patrick Demarchelier. The book was released on December 6th, so I knew it would be pretty hard to get one, even more at Christmas.

So if he couldn't get that, then I would love to have the 'Tim Walker - Pictures' book, because I am also in love with him quiiite alot. I knew both of these books were almost £100 if not more each, and they were also released really close to Christmas, so I honestly wasn't suprised when my partner told me he couldn't get either of them.

So I asked for a pretty charm for my Pandora bracelet.

But I had an amazing Christmas anyway with my brother, grandad and mum.

[gallery columns="4" ids="186,241,280,307,325,338,350,374"]

My mum got me tonnes of kool stuff like a cute cupcake maker, some completely relevant charms for my bracelet she got me for my 20th and actually millions of threads and fashion stuff like Pinking Shears and bobbin cases. Proper fashion student presents!

I got a Kelly Rowland album and so yummy lush bits from my brother and some pennies from my grandad.

AND!

When I saw Jon later that day, guess what he gave me!

[gallery columns="4" ids="385,433,442,452,459,467,749"]

He got me all of them, I actually wet myself! What a little sneak! I'm getting excited now thinking about it!

And just to make things even more crazy, when my sister came down a few days after, she gave me this!
Alexander_mcqueen

A limited Edition of 'Alexander McQueen - Savage Beauty'. Ahhhh. They are all completely amazing, and when I get a scanner I will be having a good scanning session so I can share them with you.

I know I sound completely spoilt but I never even expected that I would get all this, I know I am so so lucky.

I'm so excited!

Di$count Univer$e

This amazing International Collaborative exhibition launched by Kita Kore Building (Koenji - Tokyo) and Primitive (From London - UK) also featuring an impressive collection of pieces from the 'Arti$anal' range by Discount Universe is absoloutly mind blowing.

The exhibition concept was '3 countries, 3 objects and 3 seperate exhibitions'. Each group sourced 6 random garments that were ran down and worn away and then used the D.I.Y technique to customise and re-vamp the items into something completely different and raw!

And obviously the results were shown in 3 exhibitions around the world. Wow!

The Dreams Of Tim Walker #1

Tim_walker

I adore Tim Walker. In a way, I feel like he really helps me, like we are on the same page. Sometimes I feel like the clothes I make are not acceptable, they are too wild and no - one wants a dress that is so over - the - top. But when I look at Tim Walker, I just get so inspired and I can see exactly why I do what I do. This is what I want to and where I want to go with my fashion. I love it.

Tim Walker is one of the most accomplished and successful fashion photographers in the whole world, and he's always done everything his way, always over - the - top in his pictures, in his short films and the dresses he designs, he is a truely beautiful artist and one of the rare photographers who doesn't use Photoshop. www.timwalkerphotography.com

Here is a short video with Tim Walker himself talking about how he gets the inspiration for his work and also a collection of his beautiful pictures for you to cry over.

I was messing around on www.Deviantart.com a few months ago when I came across these two photographs in the 'Fashion Photography' section.

I honestly really love photography, I have quite a decent digital camera that I literally carry with me everwhere I go, well most days depending on the size of my bag. Commercial and Fashion photography are my favorite and I think my all time favorite photographer is Annie Leibovitz who has done thousands of shoots for 'Vanity Fair' and 'Vogue' magazine, which truthfully, is the sole reason I actually buy the issues.

I'm not entirely sure who produced these pictures but I really like them, I think they`re quite different.

What do you think?

D.I.Y Mermaid Dress

[gallery ids="282,299"]

I have a photoshoot next week at a lake and it`s been a real struggle to find a big floaty dress that will look 'mermaidy' in the water, so I have decided to make one.

I've used these beautiful pictures of my favorite alternative model 'Audrey Kitching' doing a water shoot as inspiration for the dress.

[gallery columns="4" ids="107,147,171,203"]

I am using the flowers from an old necklace to add a girlie detail to the dress, an old blue dress i've never actually worn and a selection of pastel coloured netting and taffeta which I will attatch to the dress in different places to add the 'floatiness'.

Hopefully this will work, i'll show you when it`s done.

[gallery ids="233,265"]

Here it is, I think it looks ok. It`s not great.
